Piece of the Middle East

15 Sep Piece of the Middle East

It finally happened!  The lovely Marlies of Free From Supermarket and I have been discussing this idea for months and months, and we finally did it (Edit: it happened 4 more times since, all successful and delicious). Last Thursday morning, we had our first Middle Eastern Mezze class for adults, and it was a big success! Marlies donated her kitchen for this cause, and let 6 lovely ladies come and make a mess with me.

For three

Falafelhours, we worked on a beautiful spread of healthy Middle Eastern specialties, such as spelt pita bread, winner hummus, fattoush, oven baked falafel, a surprising onion salad, spicy eggplant salad, and my take on dolma using beautiful grape leaves form you garden. As you know already, everything we used was organic, local, high quality ingredients from Marlies’s online store, and farmy.ch.

We had such an amazing time, and everyone was so happy with the results of their hard (well, not too hard) work. Just check out this amazing testimonial we’ve received from the beautiful people who attended the class:

HummusToday I attended a Mezze cooking course hosted by our Health & Safety Day partner Free From Supermarket and run by one of our sponsors on the day, Danna from Miso Cute Cooking Course. Mezze, a selection of appetizers and typical for Near Eastern and North African meals, are not only easy to make, as we practiced today, but delicious AND, keeping with our mantra, healthy! What else can one want?!

Under Danna’s watchful eye we prepared a tahini dish, her winner hummus, homemade oven baked falafel, Falafel-Rollingfattoush, a lovely sweet onion salad, spicy eggplants with plenty of Harissa, a Dolma Pie and, my absolute favorite, the best ever, and not at all difficult to make pita bread.

Have I said enough? Attending one of Danna’s cooking courses sometime soon in the future is high on my priority list and it should be on your’s, too.

But still, oh so delicious! Even my kids gobbled it all up. I really enjoyed the class and would highly recommend it to anyone who would be interested in joining. A group of my friends and I joined Danna for her Mezze class to celebrate my Birthday. Everyone had a wonderful time. Danna’s teaching style is relaxed, warm, encouraging… There were cooks of all different levels and backgrounds in our course, but each one learned something fantastic. Not only did we end the evening with a wonderful meal, we went home with several incredible recipes to enjoy over and over with our own families and friends. Best Hummus and Falafel I have ever had!
